With the recent efforts to mitigate the drought affects, the Papakura Water Treatment Plant became a key asset for Watercare to upgrade and recommission to provide 12 million + litres per day to the residents of Papakura.
With a strict time frame, we were engaged to complete all site civil enabling works including temporary access roads, block retaining walls, platform, concrete slabs and pavement construction.
Once established on-site, we were then contracted to undertake all buried services infrastructures. Ranging from, new raw water connection for the temporary treatment plant, upgrade and install new chlorinated, filtered, and treated water infrastructure, wastewater pipe and manholes, including upgrading the existing stormwater network.
With the catastrophic failure of an existing 1050 corrugated steel culvert, a tomo started appearing in a popular recreational park in Lynn Reserve, Glenfield.
Classed as an Emergency Works Project, we established on-site swiftly whilst still negotiating contract terms and contract rates. Site works commenced whilst design and contract works were being collaborated.
Watercare wished to install two wye connections onto the CLS watermain at the Pukekohe East Reservoir.
The reservoir supplies water to a large number of residents in South Auckland, and the contract specifications allowed only a maximum of 12 hours for the watermain to be shut down. In order to achieve the contract requirements, we developed the idea to excavate and hot-tap the mains line in order to install a temporary line to continue water supply during the wye installation. The CLS tie-ins were then fabricated off-site at our workshop in East Tamaki before installation on-site in Pukekohe. Installations occurred on a busy road with a large amount of visibility from
the public, meaning that strict health and safety and traffic management protocols needed to be followed.
Once installed, the tie-ins needed to be tested on-site prior to backfilling and reinstatement works. We completed all works on schedule.
The Redoubt Road Reservoir Complex stores drinking water from the Waikato Water Treatment Plant. In 2019, Watercare began the process of upgrading the Waikato Water Treatment Plant to operate at 175 million litres per day. This increase required the installation of an additional flow control valve at the Redoubt Road Flow Control Station, increasing the flow capacity to the Redoubt Road Reservoir Complex.
We were tasked with the off-site fabrication, finishing and hydro-testing of all pipes, lids, valves, spools and fittings required.
On-site, we conducted the site investigations and surveys, site preparation including a hot tap, civil and structural works in order to bring the flow control valve online.
Fulton Hogan sub-contracted GFS to fabricate and install three cut-ins into the Ardmore Water Treatment Plant CLS mains. Works were to be completed over several stages in order to minimise downtime for end users.
To achieve this, we detailed, fabricated and finished the sections off-site at our yard in East Tamaki. On-site, we utilised line stoppers in order to temporarily dam the mains line. Following the shut-down, we cut out the existing pipe sections and installed the wye sections before removing the line stoppers.
All works were completed on schedule, with a pause to the initial programme as a result of the COVID-19 Level 4 shut-downs.
